DISCRIMINATION AGAINST THE POORWhen we break it down, there are opportunities to rise above your current station in life, to do better than your parents, but if you already start out ahead of the curve, your chances of success are far higher.

The system is rigged against the poor. So, not only does society teach you that it is your fault you are poor, but the system is designed to keep you poor. The examples of this are numerous. Take for instance, the city determines there should be winter parking with alternating sides of the street. And, who needs to use on street parking? Generally, those individuals who do not have a driveway or garage. So, imagine, you have to move your 2001 Toyota every day from November through April, which is a definite annoyance, but on one particularly cold day the vehicle will not start. You have tried jumping it with no luck, and you do not have the money for a repair, let alone to tow the vehicle anywhere. So it sits, and collects ticket, after ticket, until the city has it towed. Now, you are into the city for thousands of dollars, that you do not have, and you are without a vehicle. Meanwhile those unpaid tickets, those continue to incur late fees, and the impound lot is charging you daily.

The morale of the story is if you are poor, the system is designed to keep you there. And on top of all that, as a society, we teach that you can create your own fortune, just work hard. People have done it, that is for sure, but the road there is difficult. My point being, we all deserve a break. Things and events do happen to people outside of their ability to control. We need to be forgiving of each other, and forgiving of ourselves. One day, society may be able to correct its prejudice against the poor, but for now, we need to be understanding and work on correcting our own misconceptions.
