Google says it is doing its best to clean up the maps but how can this type of stuff continue to go on like this? How can a lawyer ethically make claims like this that are blatantly false? To me, our Lawyer’s Professional Responsibility Board has failed to keep up with the recent changes to virtual office spaces and the rampant abuse taking place by lawyers to trick Google into getting Google Map Listings that deceive the public, but make the lawyer a lot of money.
Now, I am not saying a law office cannot have more than one office. At Kain & Scott, we staff 7 locations full time and we correctly display our hours of operation, hours that we actually are open and have staff available. Some law firms claim they are open 24/7 because they have an answering service answer their phones. That is not credible at all. The law firm’s physical locations are locked up and there is no staff available at all. The fact that a non-employee third party answers your phone does not mean your business is “open”.
It is past time that Minnesota lawyers clean up their advertising act and make sure 100% of their advertising claims are correct.
