What to avoid when filing bankruptcy in MN

I remember hiring a lawyer one time. He was juggling many cases. We needed him to represent us in a legal matter that was not overly complicated but we did not have time to do it ourselves. Besides, we learned in law school, that a client who represents themselves has a fool for a client. It is hard to be emotionally detached from a matter and hand the legal matter yourself. That is why even lawyers hire lawyers to represent them.

But I digress. I was in court one day and my phone started to buzz. I looked down at the number and did not recognize the number. Thankfully, I still answered the phone because on the other end of the phone was the lawyer we hired to handle our legal matter and he was in a panic. I said, what is wrong? He said we have mediation today in St. Paul, MN and I totally forgot about it. I am like, well, I am in St. Cloud, MN at a hearing right now. I cannot make it to St. Paul. Do you think it looked good to the mediator that we were not present for a mediation that was scheduled months in advance? It certainly did not. And our lawyer just passed it off as oops, I goofed.

I am wary about solo practitioners who are the chief cook and bottle washer and everything else in the firm. I am far more comfortable hiring a professional team and professional firm whose practice is dedicated 100% to the issue I face and has the staff to get it done with ease.

Will I ever hire a solo practitioner again? Not likely.
