Computers are now exempt in Minneapolis, MN bankruptcies thanks to LifeBack Law Firm

    Thanks to the attorneys at LifeBack Law Firm, computers are now exempt as household items under Minnesota bankruptcy exemptions for the first time in history. The world has changed a lot in the last 30 years. Computers have become a necessary household appliance to conduct all kinds of business. Many of us conduct our finances online, make medical appointments online, access our medical records online and do many other household functions.

     Unfortunately, in the same hearing, the same judge found snow blowers in Minnesota not to be exempt under Minnesota exemptions as household appliances. With due respect to the court, the court’s analysis was flawed. I mean if we want to talk about the nitty gritty, you do not need a stove to cook supper you could use wood and fire. You do not need a toaster as you could use a torch to toast your bread. Yes, I know debtors can use shovels to shovel their driveway, but we live in Minnesota. Does anyone think you want to buy a snow blower because snow blowers are cool, and fun to have? Of course not. You buy a snow blower because you need to use it to remove snow.

     Good grief, my client was in her 70s and she was being told to use shovels. 

     For the time being, we have to count our blessings. At least, that computer you are using to pay for the snow blower loan is exempt from creditors and bankruptcy trustees.
